Baraboo Area Homeless Shelter is a 501c3 not-for-profit corporation operating the only homeless shelter in Sauk County. Serving men, women and families as clients, Pathway Home operates in a 5500 sq ft facility with a capacity of 30 individuals in the City of Baraboo. 70% of Pathway Home's operating budget comes from private and corporate donations, and gifts are tax-deductible.
Facing the challenges of today requires problem-solvers who bring different perspectives and are willing to take risks. Baraboo Area Homeless Shelter emerged out of a pursuit to inspire and support the community, and a desire for actions to speak louder than words. Established in 2019, we’re an organization driven by progressive ideas, bold actions, and a strong foundation of support.
Baraboo Area Homeless Shelter knows that our strength lies not only in the words we stand by, but most importantly through the actions of our initiatives. In 2019, our community leaders realized that by working together we could overcome our challenges much more efficiently, and that is why we ultimately decided to collaborate and build.
Please meet Nicole Tidwell, Baraboo native and Director of Pathway Home – the Baraboo Area Homeless Shelter. Tidwell holds a Bachelor of Science in University Studies & Public Health from Brigham Young University – Idaho, and brings the experience of working in health promotion, case management in addiction recovery, and supervised release. She has established a deep understanding of public & community health and safety, program planning and implementation, cognitive behavioral therapy, family stress and coping, child and family advocacy, and cultural awareness. Her commitment to these causes and other social problems is profound and we anticipate her to be a great asset to the community and our mission.
“My family came to Baraboo in 1999 when I was a young child. Baraboo has been my home and I am proud to be from this community. I am dedicated to advocating for the homeless and the at need population that is suffering from social problems that cause homelessness. I am passionate about addressing the needs of those who are coming from situations involving drug and alcohol addiction, domestic violence, chronic homelessness, mental health, finance management, food insecurity, and disintegration of family and other support networks.
I have been married for just over 10 years and we have 2 young children together. We’ve experienced many challenges that have inspired me to do this work. I am thrilled to be part of something like this in my hometown. Just one more thing that makes Baraboo truly The Greatest Place on Earth!”
Nicole is also certified by FEMA for Developing and Managing Volunteers, and looks forward to creating opportunities for members of our community to give back. We encourage those willing to volunteer, to get in contact with Nicole to see what the shelter may stand in need of at this time.
Pathway Home, the Baraboo Area Homeless Shelter, together with its partners at Central Wisconsin Community Action Council, is proud to announce the hiring of HALEY WEISERT as case manager.
A Sauk County native, Weisert holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse and is a graduate of Reedsburg Area High School. She has extensive work experience in a number of area not-for-profits, most recently as a program specialist with the UW-Madison Extension Sauk County office for the last five years. Much of her previous work has involved learning and connecting people with programs and resources in Sauk County, providing education to area youth, and conducting outreach in the area. Her knowledge of area resources and her obvious concern for people experiencing homelessness make her an ideal person to intersect with, support and encourage both our clients and staff.
Haley joined our team the last week of June, and reports to shelter manager Nicole Tidwell. A resident of rural Sauk County, she enjoys hiking, kayaking and gardening in the area.
